Northern Harvest is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1997 by Dan and Helen Buckwalter of Homer, Alaska, with the specific purpose of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in villages throughout Alaska. Our
mission is to plant and establish churches and raise up disciples
of Christ in the villages who possess a world vision for Christ
and who will give
spiritual leadership in their churches and communities.
Dan Buckwalter, an ordained minister and certified pilot, flies a Piper-Cherokee 6 to numbers of off-road villages to preach, teach, counsel, conduct baptisms, weddings, and funerals, and often assists in practical ways as needs arise. He takes along others who wish to participate in the ministry and in the summer transports Vacation Bible School (VBS) teams to and from various villages. Helen, a homemaker and former school teacher, directs the VBS children's program each summer, and travels and minsters alongside Dan. At present Northern
Harvest ministers mainly
to villages on the
Alaska Peninsula, but also assists in the
ministry of other Alaskan evangelical missionaries in other parts
of the state as opportunities arise.
Northern Harvest is a faith ministry funded by various churches and interested people who have a desire to help spread the gospel in Alaskan villages. Gifts to Northern Harvest are tax deductible and can be sent to:
